Kochi, February 18, 2014: The World Spice Congress was held in Kochi in February 2014. The event was hosted by the Spices Board and the All India Spices Exporters’ Forum. It provided a platform to global thought leaders, grower representatives, policy-defining bodies as well as leading players from the spice industry and food and beverages companies. Over 700 delegates from 40 countries participated in the event.
The Congress focused on building a strategy to make spices safer by changing anomalies in food safety policies. The event brought together heads to set the right direction to secure a sustainable future for the industry.
India is the spice bowl of the world as it is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices in the world. India accounts for 45 per cent of the world’s spice trade both in volume and value. India has developed National Standards for Organic Production and leading international certification agencies accredited by Spices Board are offering certification services in India.
