Increase in Indian coffee exports

August 27, 2015: While there has been a decline in the global coffee market, Indian coffee exports have witnessed a surge, due to the strong demand for robusta coffee, which accounts for around 70 per cent of its coffee exports of more 3 lakh tonnes.

Exports of coffee from India reached 220,113 tonnes between January 1 and August 25, according to data from the Coffee Board, a rise of 1 per cent year-on-year. Shipments of Robusta increased by 22 per cent and the period also witnessed a significant rise in re-exported coffee to be used by instant coffee makers. Soluble coffee shipments in terms of green bean equivalent reached 60,842 tonnes, which includes re-exports that grew at a rate of 18 per cent over the period.
