Domestic coffee chains looking at expansion in Kerala

April 07, 2015: While international coffee chains are already all out to dominate in Kerala, predominantly known as a tea drinking state, domestic coffee chains are also looking at expanding their businesses in order to capitalise on the market opportunity.

The latest entrants include names like Hilite Group, originally a property developer based out of Kozhikode, and Beans and Flavours, a small coffee blender from Idukki district. Hilite Group plans to set up a chain of 100 coffee shops on the NH47 and NH 17 over the next three to four years with the first two stores expected to open in May this year.

As the number of coffee lovers in Kerala is on the rise, especially because of the Bangalore culture spreading to other districts in the state, the demand for coffee is expected to rise further in the coming times.

Chains like Beans and Flavours’ and Tonico are expected to provide a new and refreshing coffee experience to the consumer. It may be noted here that the domestic coffee chains have the potential to be very successful. Keeping in mind factors like ambience, product quality and service, domestic coffee chains can produce many more global brands from India in the future.
